Acquiring the Black Market Helm

The Goo Crew throws a man out into space

It has been a long ass day for our adventurers, but the day isn’t over yet!

Aradyn remains shell-shocked, unable to process what the violence the party just commuted. As Blorp runs off to track down the gnome that fled the fight, the rest of the party begins looting and hiding the bodies of the dead and dying Broken Beaks. Alazon, unconscious but not dead, is secured, and the party attempts to interrogate him to little success. What he does reveal is that the black market modified spelljammer helms were supposed to take one through space and time. Though now called the Broken Beaks, the gang used to sail under their captain and after his death have become obsessed with finding a way to bring him back.

Meanwhile, Blorp attempts to find the gnome, but quickly lost sight of the lil’ guy. When he returns, Alazon laughs and points out the smoke starting to rise in the sky, admitting that is the direction of his ship. Blorp absorbs Alazon, leaving him a space to breath through, and the party runs to the Broken Beak ship which has indeed gone up in flames.

Quickly figuring out who might be the most helpful in attempting to take the helm off the burning ship, Justinia, M. A. D. S., Lucia, and Mace dash onto the ship while Bren, Blorp, and Aradyn stay behind. With the ship falling apart around them and the air filled with smoke, Lucia and M. A. D. S. slams their weapons down like hammers, freeing the helm from the floorboards while also sending it dropping through the decks beneath. Though exhausted from the precious fight, Justinia attempts to use her Talent to arrest the falling helm. Instead she finds the limits of her energy and falls unconscious. Thinking quickly, Mace uses the piece of crystal found on Alazon that Justinia infused to launch the helm back towards the group who is then able to wrestle it onto solid deck and start carrying it off the ship.

Under the influence of Bren’s charm spell, Alazon admits that, with his crew dead, he has nothing left to live for and begs to be thrown off the side of Shellac Bay into space. Bren and Blorp acquiesce, sending Aradyn into a tirade. However, he doesn’t have long to lecture before the rest of the party returns with helm in tow only to then get stopped from going anywhere by the arrival of a Ebon Claw solider coming to investigate the fire on the docks. Despite their best efforts, the party is not able to convince him to ignore their presence—they even invoke Mahaxara’s name in an attempt to give themselves some credibility!—and he tells them quite firmly that they will need to come with him to the Ebon Claw’s headquarters. Though annoyed that the party threw her name around to get out of trouble, Mahaxara dismisses them to continue their business with the reminder that failure to procure a helm by that evening is not something they are likely to survive.

Unable to stand the casual violence he has witnessed—and participated in to some extent—Aradyn takes a long walk to clear his head as the rest of the party hurries to the Mercane Agency to return the missing helm, with Blorp unsubtly following. Ermine, the Mercane Agency manager, is thoroughly impressed by their quick work, paying the party a further 60 gold for their service. The party lays out the next steps to a scheme that might stop the black market business altogether so long as they are able to get their hands on a new spell jamming helm to “prove” their worth and double cross the black market traders.

Finally, in the wee hours of the next morning, the party crashes in their new cabins to rest with Ermine’s promise that he will run their proposal and request past the Mercanes and have an answer ready for them that evening…
